The first feature for the 12 days of Bridgemas is the joyful Sussex Carol, performed by Lawrence Schofield and his brass quintet! The video of their performance can be found at the link below:
The lyrics of the Sussex Carol highlight a theme that is going to run throughout the features- Christmas as good news:
On Christmas Night, all Christians sing
To hear the news the angels bring…
News of great joy, news of great mirth
News of our merciful King’s birth
These words (echoing Luke 2:10-11*) speak of Jesus’ birth as “good news”, and explain why Christians find Christmas so worth celebrating!
This is something we’re going to be exploring over the next few days as we explore the questions: Why is Christmas still good news? & What does that good news mean for us today?
If this is something you want to think more about, stay tuned for the next 11 posts, and come along to our Carol Service (there are ones at 8 & 10pm) on Wednesday 1st December in Great St Marys Church, Cambridge- the theme for these is “Good News of Great Joy”!

But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the city of David a Saviour has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.”
Luke 2:10-11, NIV.
